I feel lucky to have been Kelly's student for the last seven years. Starting out as a raw beginner at age 57, I really had no clue. I couldn't read music beyond one or two notes and I couldn't play anything. Frankly, it's a miracle she even took me on.
I could go on for hours about her patience and her kindly, quiet persistence. Her gentle manner...always friendly and encouraging, but always working her craft to move my learning along. Everyone that meets her will tell you these things.
In my opinion, however, what really makes Kelly special is her infectious love of music and piano, which has been reflected in all her interactions with me...from teaching, to playing. to just talking about music. She has introduced me to so much in music that I would have missed, indeed to entire genres I hardly knew existed. Somewhere along the line I realized she was teaching me more than notes and piano technique... she was teaching me to become a musician with my own musical voice and expression. What a gift! Thank you, Kelly.
I am honored to write this review. She has the patience of a saint. She is soft spoken and loves music which reflects on her passion to teach others. I am 55 years old and was given a piano for Christmas. I was very nervous but she quickly put me at ease. I am blessed to have her as my piano teacher. She takes her time with you. She guides you every step of the way without ever getting upset with you. I have listened to her play and well it is breath taking. Anyone who chooses Kelly as their piano teacher will enable all their dreams to come true with their own creativity in music.
I have been taking piano lessons from Kelly for the past three years and I am deeply impressed with her enthusiasm for teaching how to play the piano. She is fully committed to the correct piano technique and as well as playing musically. As a piano teacher, she not only possesses a strong background in music education but has a lot of experience in teaching. When it comes to her teaching style, she is a perfectionist. She will go the extra mile to make sure her student picks up the right playing habits early in the process. As a teacher, she is courteous, reliable, and has a professional stance. If you are serious about learning how to play the piano, Kelly being your piano teacher may make all the difference.
I took lessons as a child (a long time ago!) and learned some of the basics, became overwhelmed and quit. Now, as an adult, I decided to return to the piano to continue to learn. I am so glad I found Kelly! I started taking lessons with her about a year ago, and immediately some serious weaknesses in my playing revealed themselves: hand and finger position, wrist movement, note reading...just to name some. Kelly's response has been consistently patient and encouraging. Whether I need gentle acceptance of "where I am" or a firmer motivation to break through to rise to a higher challenge Kelly tailors the lessons to suit me. Kelly Walsh is a patient and talented piano teacher whose love and appreciation for music is obvious and contagious.
