Absolutely! You will receive the same personal interaction and attention to detail from me as if I were sitting right beside you. Just focus your camera on the right side of your body and have your hands and the keyboard in view. I will have the same perspective of you as if I were teaching you in-person.
Yes. I first started teaching lessons online in 2020 at the request of some of my students. To this day, those students have not returned to in-person lessons because they prefer to stay at home rather than drive to my studio. They say they like to take lessons on their own pianos and enjoy relaxing at home until the lesson time. Online lessons benefit my students because I can see and hear them play their own instruments. I can observe their typical posture at the piano and listen for any mechanical problems their pianos may have that could affect their technique or the quality of their tone. I have often discovered that pedals on my students' pianos are not functioning as they should.
Download the free Signal app to your phone. After it is installed on your phone, you can then log into the app on any device. I use Signal for the video calls because it has crystal clear audio and reliable video connections. Students like to use their laptops or personal computers for their lessons because the screens are much bigger than a phone's screen. The built-in camera and microphone on your laptop or PC will be fine. No additional equipment is needed.
You will never be charged any fees or asked to sign a contract. I certainly don't want any student to be taking piano lessons that they don't want simply because they are stuck in a contract. If you decide to discontinue lessons, kindly give me enough notice to rearrange my schedule.
Students make payments to me through Zelle. Lesson tuition must be paid the day before your lesson. I will make allowances for a reasonable number of lessons that you need to reschedule or cancel.
Practice a few pieces to play for me so that I may assess your playing. We will discuss what you feel you need help with and I will suggest pieces that will help you with your challenges. The pieces you choose to play for me do not have to be perfect; I need to know what your strengths and your weaknesses are. For the first lesson, I will provide you with an email address where you can send pictures to me of the music you intend to play at your lesson. When we decide upon new pieces for you to begin learning, I will choose the best editions of those works from www.imslp.org and send you links to them so you can print the music at home. It is important that both of us are reading the same edition of your music.
